Motorsport as a business model: Barni Spark Racing shows how it’s done

Marco Barnabo and his team are involved in a wide range of activities. In the Italian Superbike Championship, his Barni team acts as an extension of Ducati and is also involved in the World Championship – at times competing simultaneously in both the Supersport and Superbike categories. Barni Racing is also notably often a pioneer in the use of new models in the national series, such as the new V4 Ducati with a double-sided swingarm and the V2 Supersport.

Furthermore, Barni Racing is more than just a team; it is a company, which in itself is not unusual. The Italian company offers its expertise and services to other teams. Among those making use of these services are JTD Racing from Malaysia and Spark Racing from Serbia – a sponsorship agreement with the latter has also been in place since 2022.

To improve processes and create more opportunities for expansion, Barnabo had been planning for some time to build a new workshop. This has now been completed not far from the team’s existing headquarters and is coming into operation.

“When we talk about racing, we primarily think of what happens on the track. But behind every race lies an enormous amount of preparatory work that begins long before the actual race takes place. That’s why we needed an environment that is perfectly tailored to our team’s needs and our day-to-day work,” explained the 56-year-old. “The new workshop is a significant investment for us and enables us to provide even better working conditions for the preparation and maintenance of the motorbikes. Thanks to our collaboration with LV8, we’ve been able to create a bespoke environment in which every element is designed to enable more efficient and precise work. We’re very pleased with the result and see this new workshop as another important step in our team’s growth.”

Note: LV8 is a renowned Italian supplier of equipment for car and motorbike workshops, which also handles the entire planning and implementation process.
