Motocross and Supercross icon Eli Tomac (KTM) is ending his career

On Monday, motocross and supercross star Elic Tomac announced that he will be retiring at the end of this season. At the age of 33, the American has enjoyed another highly successful season this year with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, securing four victories in the 450SX main events of the AMA Supercross Championship.

Tomac will go down in history as one of the greatest riders in his sport – his career spanned 17 professional seasons (2010 to 2026). Hailing from Cortez, Colorado, ranks second on the all-time 450SX winners’ list with 57 victories in 450SX main events, and fourth on the all-time AMA Pro Motocross 450MX winners’ list with a total of 32 victories.

As a two-time AMA Supercross 450SX champion (2020, 2022) and four-time 450MX champion (2017, 2018, 2019, 2022), Tomac has represented Team USA six times at the prestigious Motocross of Nations (MXoN) – in 2022, he captained the United States to victory at Red Bud.

Early in his career, Tomac secured the 250MX motocross title in 2013, having claimed twelve overall wins in that class – including his professional debut at the season-opener in Hangtown in 2010 – before making the full switch to the premier class in 2014. He also won the 250SX West Division championship in 2012.

Furthermore, in 2026, Tomac won the Daytona Supercross for the eighth time in his career – a record – was crowned FIM Supercross World Champion in the SX1 class in 2024, and in 2022 was honoured with the ESPY Award in the prestigious category ‘Best Male Action Sports Athlete’.

“The entire Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team would like to thank Eli, wish him all the best for the future and look forward to successfully concluding the current season together with the upcoming SMX play-offs, which will culminate on 26 September with the SMX World Championship final in Ridgedale, Missouri,” according to an official statement from KTM.

During his long career, Eli Tomac has ridden for Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and KTM. It was not until the 2026 season that he moved from Yamaha to the KTM works team.
