Mercedes-AMG ace Maro Engel secures pole position at the Sachsenring

Mercedes-AMG veteran Maro Engel has secured pole position for the second DTM race at the Sachsenring. Driving the WINWARD Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, he set a commanding fastest lap time of 1:26.307 minutes. This result sees Engel close the gap on championship leader Thomas Preining.

Ricardo Feller takes second place on the grid in the Manthey Porsche. The Porsche works driver was 0.448 seconds behind Engel.

Jules Gounon completes the top three in the second WINWARD Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Qualifying took place on a wet track following heavy rain showers, meaning the teams and drivers had to adapt to completely new conditions. During the course of qualifying, some drivers switched to slicks quite early on the drying track, but this proved to be a mistake and the teams switched back to wet tyres. However, despite the extremely difficult conditions, qualifying passed without incident and all drivers stayed on the track.
