Championship leader Kimi Antonelli ahead of the Baku GP: “I’ve always been a dreamer”

‘Sport in Fiera’ has been held for 28 years as a major three-day event at the Serravalle Sports Centre (San Marino). Its aim is to introduce the public to various sports associations in the region and to inspire people of all ages to take up sport.

As part of this multi-disciplinary sports festival, Formula 1 World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli was invited this year. The 19-year-old Italian was invited as a guest speaker to address media students and spoke about this year’s World Championship, as well as his goals and dreams.

“I’ve always been a dreamer,” says the Bolognese, “even as a child. And I still am today. My current dream is to become Formula 1 World Champion and, after that, to be one of the greatest champions.”

“Sport has always been part of my life, ever since I could walk. I’m convinced that sport in general has made me the person I am today.”

“Sport teaches you the fundamental values of life very quickly, such as respect for the people you work with, but also for your sporting rivals.”

In his speech, the eight-time Grand Prix winner also emphasised how important the role of family is in his life. “Without my family, I would never have achieved any of this.”

Antonelli on the host nation, San Marino: “I feel at home here; San Marino is peaceful and pretty.”

Things were a little less peaceful not so long ago in Monza. Antonelli continued: “Winning the Italian Grand Prix was my most emotional GP triumph of all. The feeling up there on the podium was simply incomparable. It wasn’t just because it was my home race; it was also because I had to start from so far back. I’ll never forget that day for the rest of my life.”

But first up is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, on the street circuit in Baku: “I like this track; it’ll be a tough challenge for everyone, but I believe we can do well there.”
