Euro Moto News: From the paddock in Oschersleben

All classes had a race to complete at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on Saturday. Only the Euro Moto Superbike class gets to race twice on Sunday. There was plenty going on off the track as well.

A side job as a fakir

This wasn’t how Chris Beinlich had imagined his first Superbike practice session at Oschersleben. The 30-year-old privateer from Pößneck pulled back into the pits after just his first lap in free practice on his BMW. There, his mechanic discovered something quite unexpected: a screw was stuck in the rear tyre. “Something like this has never happened to me before,” the rider from Thuringia told euromoto.racing. For the BRT team, which is already on a tight budget, the unplanned tyre change could have been a real setback. Series manager Maximilian Graf von Saurma-Jeltsch heard about the mishap and promptly organised a new rear tyre from Pirelli. Thanks to this spontaneous support, Beinlich – who is only competing in his second season in the Superbike class – was able to get back on the track for the second free practice session.

All good things come in threes

Lukas Tulovic from Team Triple M Ducati Frankfurt had clinched his third pole position at the fourth race weekend of the Euro Moto Superbike series. On Friday, Honda rider Florian Alt had still been in the driving seat. “But they always manage to find another second between Friday and Saturday,” said Alt, glancing towards the Ducati pit. “And we just can’t.” Track conditions had improved since Friday, when a bit of rubber left behind by the DTM on the tarmac had made finding rear-wheel grip difficult, and Lukas Tulovic was able to beat his own track record from the previous year.

Hard work

Following the rather mixed results at the start of the season, the ERC team focused on further developing the Kawasaki ZX-6R 636. “We’ve used the time to make some progress with the set-up,” explains Lothar Kraus, the Technical Director. “We’ve also been working intensively on the right mapping to ensure the Kawasaki performs significantly better.” The work paid off. On the first day of practice, two ERC Kawasakis were among the top five riders on the combined timesheet. Sasha de Vits impressed as the fastest Kawasaki rider in second place. Team-mate Jules Bercot finished fifth, whilst Svendsen’s replacement, Felix Kauertz, also made it straight into the top ten on his debut in the Euro Moto Sportbike class. “The bike was already good at the Sachsenring. It just lacked speed. With the new set-up and the changes, the Kawasaki accelerates noticeably better and is significantly faster than it was at the Sachsenring,” said de Vits, describing the progress.

DTM residue

Although the track had been thoroughly scrubbed following the DTM’s visit the week before the Euro Moto practice sessions, the cars had still left a bit of rubber on the surface. However, two smart grandstands from the previous week were still in place and could be used free of charge by Euro Moto spectators.

Kawasaki shake-up

At Team ERC Kawasaki, the Dane Oliver Svendsen had thrown in the towel. The team promptly signed the German Felix Kauertz. At Oschersleben, Emil Weber’s Swiss Kawasaki team also turned up with just one rider and announced that they had parted ways with the Frenchman Lorenzo Fellon. A replacement rider is being sought for the races in Assen in 14 days’ time.

New Champion and New Red Bull Rookie

Tobias Siegert has already clinched the Moto4 Northern Cup title ahead of the final, which takes place in Assen in two weeks’ time. Whilst he had held back slightly at the start of the first race, he put in a spectacular final sprint. His tactics paid off, and the Team Kiefer rider, along with his supporters Dario Giuseppetti, Philipp Hafeneger and Stefan Nebel, waited at the trackside with the champion’s helmet and shirt, accompanied by Siegert’s mate Lennox Lehmann. Siegert has thus not only secured the title but also a direct place in the 2027 Red Bull Rookies Cup.

All gone

Peter Feigl, the Supersport rider from Team Eder Racing, had all his results from the 2026 season so far struck off following a technical inspection, and at Oschersleben he was forced to start from the pit lane. The seals on his engine had been damaged.

Final honour

“Today, as GERT56, we were honoured to receive a fantastic award on behalf of our team boss KW,” said the Euro Moto Superbike team comprising Marcel Schrötter, Toni Finsterbusch and Jan-Ole Jähnig. “Now he too has his own plaque on the Walk of Fame at the Motorsportarena Oschersleben hotel – in his ‘motorsport living room’, as he always called it. Many thanks to the hotel and the Motorsportarena Oschersleben for this wonderful tribute to KW. We’re sure this honour would have meant a great deal to him.” Karsten Wolf passed away in January 2026 following a brief but serious illness.
