In the Moto2 race at the Sachsenring, Pramac Yamaha rider Izan Guevara got off to a good start from third on the grid. The Spaniard managed to work his way up to second place behind pole-setter Ivan Ortola on the first lap. Together with Ortola, Guevara tried to pull away from the field, but on lap 5 he was overtaken by Aspar rider Daniel Holgado. After that, the Boscoscuro rider rode consistently in third place, always within striking distance of the leading duo. However, in the final laps, he was no longer able to keep up with his two rivals. Guevara crossed the finish line in third place, 3.229 seconds behind winner Ortola.

“It was an incredibly demanding race, probably even tougher than it looked from the outside. Physically, it was one of the toughest races I’ve ridden in a long time,” sighed Guevara. “In the final laps, the rear tyre had lost so much grip that the bike was sliding everywhere, both when entering corners and when accelerating out of them. So it was just a case of holding on and securing a podium finish.”

Guevara also described how he tried to make up time on Ivan Ortola and Daniel Holgado. “The first part of the race felt really good, and I was able to maintain a high pace. Around the middle of the race, I tried to close the gap to the riders in front of me, as I felt I was a bit quicker,” explained the 22-year-old. “But after a few laps, tyre wear increased significantly, and from that point on I had to focus on conserving the tyres until the finish. Fortunately, I’d built up a sufficient lead over the rider in fourth place to secure third place.” Guevara finished more than four seconds ahead of Intact rider Senna Agius, who came fourth.

51.5 points behind World Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez

After eleven races, Guevara sits second in the Moto2 overall standings at the halfway point of the season with 144 points. He trails championship leader Manuel Gonzalez (Intact GP) by 51.5 points. Gonzalez finished sixth in Germany.

“Thanks to this podium finish, we’ve made up valuable points on the championship leader. There’s still a long season ahead of us, but if we keep working in this direction, we can keep up with the leaders,” Izan Guevara is certain. “Now it’s time to switch off for a few days, recover and come back ready for the second half of the season.” The next race weekend, following the summer break, will take place at Silverstone from 7 to 9 August.
