Motorcycle World Championship legend Mattia Pasini makes his debut in the BOSS GP Series at Mugello

Following the end of his racing career in the Motorcycle World Championship, Mattia Pasini remains active on the world’s racetracks. This coming weekend, the 41-year-old Italian will make his debut in the BOSS GP Series on the picturesque Mugello circuit, taking the wheel of one of the most powerful formula cars.

In Tuscany, Pasini will be driving a Dallara GP2/11, which was used in GP2 (now known as Formula 2) between 2011 and 2017. The 4-litre naturally aspirated Mecachrome V8 engine develops around 612 PS in the formula car and produces a thunderous roar. Top speeds of up to 330 km/h were possible with this car from the top junior formula series below Formula 1.

Mattia Pasini, who is friends with Formula 1 rising star and championship leader Kimi Antonelli, will be competing for Nardi Compressori Racing. Pasini has also already completed a test at the wheel of this fierce formula car.

What is the BOSS GP Series?

BOSS stands for Big Open Single Seaters – in other words, high-performance formula cars. The field in the BOSS GP Series consists of former Formula 1, GP2, Formula 2 and Formula Renault cars. Around 20 of the cars are driven mainly by gentleman drivers. Last year, German racing star Sophia Flörsch made a guest appearance in the series at Misano, where she left the competition trailing in her wake. German motor racing fans are familiar with the BOSS GP Series from its guest events at Hockenheim and the Nürburgring, but the series has also staged guest events at the Red Bull Ring in Styria.

Mattia Pasini’s return to motor racing

For Mattia Pasini, competing in the BOSS GP Series will mark his return to motor racing. Back in 2021, the driver from Riccione took part in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) – a sub-category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) – and drove an LMP3 prototype for the Polish InterEuropol team, which is regarded as one of the best teams in global prototype racing.

Pasini finished the 2021 season in seventh place in the LMP3 overall standings. Alongside current BMW works driver Ugo de Wilde from Belgium and German gentleman driver Martin Hippe, Pasini secured a podium finish in third place at the high-speed circuit in Monza, northern Italy.

Between 2004 and 2025, Pasini competed in the World Motorcycle Championship. He secured twelve victories in 250 GP races. Between 2008 and 2025, he competed in the middleweight class, initially the 250cc class, which was converted to Moto2 in 2010. In 2012, he also had a one-year stint in MotoGP, when he contested 14 races on an ART for the Speed Master team and scored 13 points.

From 2–4 October, the BOSS GP Series will take place at Mugello as part of the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia – the historic Italian Grand Prix. On Saturday at 12.25 pm and on Sunday at 12.12 pm, the spectacular racing series will contest two 22-minute races each on the breathtaking circuit in Tuscany.
