Finishing 8th in the Open class qualifying race on Saturday, Noah Ludwig had secured a good starting position for his MXoN debut. In the second race, in which the Open-class riders faced off against the MX2 riders, the Aschersleben native – known for his lightning-fast starts – once again demonstrated his qualities: Ludwig catapulted his Sarholz-KTM straight into the leading group and was in 4th place alongside Tom Vialle, Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre.
Crash in the early chaos
However, coming out of a deeply rutted right-hand bend, Ludwig lost control of his KTM and crashed. Just a few seconds later, local hero Tom Vialle went down spectacularly, meaning that Ludwig’s crash was almost lost in the general commotion. Vialle and Ludwig met as they rode into the pits. Whilst Vialle emerged largely unscathed, Noah was already clutching his right hand.
Thumb injury
“Unfortunately, I injured my thumb in that crash, so I couldn’t compete in the third race,” explained Ludwig. “It really pisses me off, and it’s my own fault too. I’m not here to make any excuses. I really did try my best. Things went well yesterday, and perhaps this race would have gone well for me too. But unfortunately, we’ll never know.”
Without Ludwig in the third race, the German team ultimately had to settle for a disappointing 16th place overall.
