The hair-raising crash occurred at the end of the first race of the MX2 class at Foxhills. Italian Beddini Ducati works rider Ferruccio Zanchi was battling with Czech rider Julius Mikula (KTM) for sixth place and was on course for his best result of the year when, just before a downhill jump into the valley, he hit a bump, went sideways off the jump and was unable to control his landing. He tumbled all the way down the steep slope. His Ducati rolled over several times but, fortunately, did not hit him.

For a moment, Zanchi lay motionless on the track, raising fears about the seriousness of the situation. Fortunately, however, after a few anxious seconds, Ferruccio was able to get back on his feet and walk away from the scene of the incident under his own steam. Subsequent examinations revealed a fracture of the T6 thoracic vertebra. Surgery is not required.

A crash in the worst possible place

“Unfortunately, I crashed at Foxhill in one of the toughest sections of the track whilst battling for sixth place,” explained Zanchi. “I now need to take a short break to recover. Many thanks to the whole team, my family and everyone who is always by my side. We never give up! Our pace and speed were good. We’ll all see each other again soon.” On behalf of all readers of SPEEDWEEK.com, we would like to take this opportunity to wish Ferruccio a full and speedy recovery!
