The green light: Senna Agius officially confirmed as a MotoGP rider for Tech3-KTM

The line-up of MotoGP riders for the 2027 season and the start of the new 850cc era has been finalised. Tech3 has officially confirmed Senna Agius as the final of its 22 regular riders. As announced just before the start of the Austrian Grand Prix, the contract between the 21-year-old Australian and Günther Steiner’s MotoGP team has been finalised. Working closely with the works racing department of partner KTM, the youngster will ride for the French team from 2027 onwards.

Senna Agius spoke with great enthusiasm: “Today, a lifelong dream of mine has come true: making the leap into MotoGP. So many years of hard work have led to this moment, and I am incredibly grateful to Günther and everyone at Tech3 for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to repay their trust. I know what a challenge lies ahead, but I’m ready to learn, work hard and get the best out of myself with this team.”

Agius continued: “A huge thank you to my family, my friends and everyone who has supported me along the way and made sacrifices for me. I’d also like to thank every team, every engineer and every mechanic I’ve worked with over the years – they’ve all played a part in helping me reach this point. I can’t wait to get started and make everyone proud.”

The Aussie has the full backing of the team owner. Günther Steiner, CEO of Tech3: “We believe that Senna has what it takes to make a very strong start in MotoGP. He has shown impressive pace and maturity in Moto2, but what really caught our eye was his determination to constantly improve and his attitude towards the work required for success. “We are building a team for a whole new era of MotoGP and wanted to combine experience with young talent. Senna is an exciting part of that future. We know he still has a lot to learn, but we are ready to support him through this process. We are delighted to welcome him to Tech3 and look forward to supporting him as he develops with us.”

Team manager Nicolas Goyon also welcomed the future rookie and team-mate of veteran Luca Marini: “Throughout his Moto2 career, Senna has proven that he possesses both the speed and the mental strength to take on this new challenge. He is still young, so there is plenty of potential that we can develop together, and we look forward to being part of the next stage of his career. “Making the step up to MotoGP with completely new rules and bikes will be a major challenge for any rider, but it also offers us the opportunity to build something together from scratch.”

Senna Agius is the fourth rider from Moto2 – alongside David Alonso, Dani Holgado and Izan Guevara – to make the move up to the premier class at the end of 2026. Notably, Agius prevailed over championship leader Manuel Gonzalez in an internal battle within the German Intact team. As was the case in 2025, the Spaniard has not secured a MotoGP contract – all signs suggest that the winner of the 2027 San Marino Grand Prix will contest his third Moto2 season with Intact GP.

The youngster’s debut – having recently been the victim of a nasty crash at the start in Italy – could take place very soon. It is conceivable that he will take the 850cc KTM for a first test during the upcoming test day at the Red Bull Ring.
