Lionspeed GP secures Porsche victory at Magny-Cours

Lionspeed GP’s second win of the season in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup. Bastian Buus and Ricardo Feller won the second race at Magny-Cours, taking a significant step forward in the title race. Starting from fourth on the grid, the duo drove to victory. With the fastest pit stop in the field, the pit crew helped ensure the Porsche could clinch the race.

Second place went to Matisse Lismont and Ignacio Montenegro in the WRT BMW M4 GT3, which fought its way up from 15th on the grid thanks to a strong strategy and pit work. The pair also secured victory in the Bronze Cup.

Rutronik Racing is celebrating its first podium finish of the season! Luca Engstler and Patric Niederhauser complete the podium in the Lamborghini Temerario GT3.

Pole-sitter Nicki Thiim made a false start in the Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin and was handed a 10-second penalty by race director Niels Wittich.

A curious sight on the fifth lap. Alex Malykhin, in the Pure Racing Porsche, collided with the rear of Charles Dawson’s 2Seas Motorsport Mercedes-AMG. In the process, the Porsche’s front bumper came loose and became lodged around the rear of the Mercedes-AMG.

Kelvin van der Linde was on an unstoppable charge up the field after being disqualified in qualifying for overboost. In the first 12 minutes, he made up around 20 places, but then spun out in the final chicane, taking out Ben Green in the Emil Frey Ferrari.

After 15 minutes, Loris Spinelli in the VSR Lamborghini Temerario GT3 and Peter Dempsey in the Tempesta Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R collided. The Lamborghini works driver slowly limped the damaged car back to the pits, where he retired.

Championship leader Kelvin van der Linde retired after 18 minutes in the WRT BMW M4 GT3. At the Adelaide hairpin, the BMW works driver collided with Peter Dempsey in the Tempesta Racing Porsche and was forced to park the car with a broken suspension. The race was neutralised. Dempsey had to tow the car back to the pits with a puncture, but was able to continue the race afterwards, although he lost the lead in the Bronze Cup.

Dustin Blattner suffered a heavy crash in the Kessel Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 after 23 minutes in the vicinity of the Adelaide hairpin. As he approached the hairpin, Blattner collided with Rinat Salikhov and subsequently crashed onto the straight at high speed before slamming into the barrier at the hairpin. The race was red-flagged to allow the driver and car to be recovered and the barrier to be repaired. Blattner is doing well under the circumstances, but was taken to the Medical Centre for a check-up. The WINWARD Mercedes received a 20-second stop-and-go penalty for causing the incident.

After a half-hour interruption, the race resumed behind the safety car. Following two laps behind the Maserati safety car, the race resumed.
