Max Verstappen hints at competing in the 24-hour classics at the Nürburgring and Spa

This year, four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen took part in the Nürburgring 24-hour race for the first time. Driving the Mercedes-AMG GT3, he battled for victory right up until shortly before the end of the race, before technical problems with the Mercedes-AMG GT3, fielded by WINWARD Racing, prevented him from winning and caused the Dutchman to drop back.

Verstappen would like to take part in the endurance classic in the Eifel region again next year and describes the 24 Hours of Spa – the world’s biggest GT3 race – as an “interesting option” to further complement his racing programme.

The two 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps – both of which form part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the unofficial GT3 World Championship – will not clash with the Formula 1 racing calendar.

“I already said after the race on the Nordschleife that I’d like to take part again,” Verstappen explained in Baku. “So if I can prepare well and everything goes smoothly, I’ll do it. I know there’s no clash of dates, but it still has to fit into my schedule, and then I’ll do it. And Spa is an exciting option for that.”

The Dutchman has ruled out taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Verstappen was rumoured to be driving a Ford LMDh prototype. “That’s not on my list at the moment,” he said in Azerbaijan.
