Motocorsa team gets down to business: just one Ducati seat left

With nine bikes, Ducati will once again be by far the strongest contingent in the 2027 World Superbike Championship. Now that Motocorsa has signed its rider, there is just one Panigale V4R seat left to fill.

With nine bikes, Ducati accounts for almost half of this year’s 22-rider Superbike field. Until recently, it was unclear whether this field would shrink, grow or remain the same for 2027 – but a clear trend is now emerging. Aruba and Barni will once again field two riders each, whilst Marc VDS, Advocates and Motocorsa will each field one. At MGM, all the signs point to them withdrawing at the end of the season; the resulting loss of a bike will be offset by Go Eleven increasing its entry from one to two bikes.

Eight of these nine riders are confirmed; the only question mark remains over the second seat at Go Eleven: the spot will go to either Italian Superbike Champion Alessandro Delbianco (29) or veteran Danilo Petrucci (35).

Lorenzo Baldassarri has extended his contract with Go Eleven; the official announcement is scheduled for next week. SPEEDWEEK.com had already reported in early September that Alberto Surra would be continuing with Motocorsa. The deal has now been confirmed. “We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Alberto in 2027,” said team manager Lorenzo Mauri. “The 2026 season has given us so much: we’ve got to know one another, overcome important moments together and built a relationship based on great mutual trust. Third place in the Superpole race at Cremona was one of the highlights and demonstrated the potential we have together. It is important for us to ensure the continuity of this project. Alberto has demonstrated great professionalism, commitment and a constant drive to improve. We are convinced that the experience he has gained in his first year in WorldSBK will be extremely valuable for 2027.”

Alberto Surra took everyone by surprise

When the 22-year-old joined Motocorsa ahead of this season, there was some scepticism, as the Turin-born rider had failed to make a lasting impression in his 20 starts in the Moto3 World Championship and ten in the Moto2 World Championship. Yet on the heavier and significantly more powerful Superbikes, Surra impressed right from the start: he stormed into the top 10 on his World Championship debut at Phillip Island at the start of the season, a feat he has achieved eleven times in the main races to date. He secured his best result with a fourth-place finish in the second long race at Cremona. In the sprint race, he managed to push even further up the field, securing his first podium finish with a third-place result in Cremona. With 140 points, the Italian sits ninth in the overall standings ahead of the Estoril weekend, just five points behind Kawasaki works rider Garrett Gerloff in eighth place.
