2027 Supersport World Championship: Kawasaki snaps up Ducati talent Jaume Masia

Regular readers of SPEEDWEEK.com will know that there has been unrest within Kawasaki’s Supersport team. It was clear from an early stage that Dominique Aegerter would not be staying on, but the team had also expected more from Jeremy Alcoba. Team boss Manuel Puccetti had already signed Sportbike leader David Salvador as the Swiss rider’s successor for the coming season.

It is now clear that the partnership with Alcoba will not be continued either. On Tuesday, Kawasaki announced that it had reached an agreement with Jaume Masià. The Spaniard is a heavyweight when it comes to riding. Since joining the Orelac Supersport team a year ago, the 25-year-old has been the top Ducati rider. In 2025 he finished third in the World Championship, and this year, with three rounds still to go, he is in fourth place.

What’s more, Masià is the 2023 Moto3 World Champion and has impressed throughout his career with both his speed and his tactical acumen!

Even though the switch from the V2 Ducati to the Kawasaki ZX-6R 636 will be a massive one, team boss Manuel Puccetti is convinced he has made the right choice. “We’re confident that he’ll be very competitive on our Ninja ZX-6R 636 and can have a strong season. We are already putting together our winter testing programme so that Jaume can build confidence with both his new bike and our team. Everyone in the team would like to thank our current riders, Jeremy Alcoba and Dominique Aegerter, and wish them a strong finish to the 2026 season as well as all the best for the future.”

In terms of resources, Kawasaki offers significantly more than the private Orelac team was able to. Masia is aware that the expectations placed on him as the face of a factory team are immense. “I know it’s a very strong team, and I’m sure we’ll improve even further in the future. Their skills, combined with my determination to win, will take us to great things,” the Spaniard is convinced. “I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to Kawasaki and everyone who believed in me, and to thank them in the best possible way: with my results.”
