Following the team boss’s death: EAB Racing to close at the end of the 2026 Supersport World Championship

A year ago, the EAB Racing Team suffered two devastating blows within the space of a few days. On 18 May 2025, co-owner Piero Cossu passed away; then, during the night of 30 to 31 May, Ferry Schoenmakers died at the age of just 59. The Dutchman was not only team principal but also acted as the main sponsor’s liaison through the Benelux branch of the Swedish company EAB – a manufacturer of, amongst other things, fully automated warehouse systems.

From then on, racing operations were maintained by Pjotr Groenenberg. This year, the Ducati team is fielding the Dane Simon Jespersen on the starting grid. After nine of twelve Supersport rounds, the 25-year-old from Copenhagen is 14th in the overall standings. Groenenberg has now announced that 2026 will be the team’s final season: EAB Racing will be disbanded at the end of the season.

“The decision to stop after this season was definitely not an easy one. Given the uncertainty about the future and everything that has happened over the last two years, we believe this is the right time for us,” said Groenenberg. “At the same time, I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with a relatively small group of people, especially given the standard of competition in the Supersport World Championship today. None of this would have been possible without Ferry. He built this team and gave it his all. We’d also like to thank Simon for the season we’ve spent together and wish him all the best for the future. We want to bring the EAB Racing Team chapter to a close in the best possible way.”

EAB Racing was founded in 2006 by Ferry Schoenmakers and went on to become a fixture in international motorbike racing. The team initially competed in the 600cc and 1000cc Superstock series, and later in the Supersport World Championship. During this time, the team collaborated with Honda and Ducati. Among its successes were the Superstock 600 titles won by Michael van der Mark and Gino Rea. Other well-known riders included Anthony West, Randy Krummenacher, Glenn van Straalen and Niki Tuuli.

With EAB Racing closing its doors after two decades, an important chapter in the Supersport World Championship also comes to an end.
