Visitors to the DTM in Oschersleben can look forward to a special highlight in the supporting programme: the DTM Classic brings legendary racing cars from the series’ history, spanning more than 40 years, back onto the track. During exhibition runs on all three days of the event, classics from all four decades will set visitors’ hearts racing at the Motorsport Arena. From the Mercedes-Benz 190 E, BMW M3 and Ford Sierra of the 1980s right through to the spectacular Class 1 cars of the 2000s, a top-class line-up of well-known cars will take to the track.
The oldest car in the line-up is a 1986 Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16V. A genuine DTM original, it competed in 1987 with Ludwig Weber at the wheel and still races today in its original livery. The early ‘Baby Benz’ is a prime example of the DTM’s early days, when cars were close to production specification. The next evolution of the model range from the early 1990s, the Evolution II, is also represented at Oschersleben. The same naturally applies to its great arch-rival, the BMW E30 M3, which features on the starting grid on several occasions.
Ford, amongst others, proved early on that it wasn’t just the Swabians and Bavarians who could compete in the DTM. In 1988, the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, with Klaus Ludwig at the wheel, clinched overall victory and set new standards thanks to its powerful turbo technology. The legendary ‘Cossi’ is therefore a must-see at Oschersleben too. Opel also left its mark on the DTM over many years; the 1990s in particular were spectacular. The Omega Evo 500 remains one of the great fan favourites from Rüsselsheim to this day and will be on display at Oschersleben.
An original ABT Audi TT-R from 2000 epitomises the era of the then newly created German Touring Car Masters. In its debut season, this roaring beast was driven at Oschersleben by the Briton James Thompson. Stefan Mücke is set to provide even more Class 1 spectacle in the Börde region. He will be driving an original 2005 DTM AMG Mercedes C-Class, which he previously raced at Oschersleben during his active DTM career.
The historic cars are a fixed part of the programme on all three days of the event. The classics will take to the track at Oschersleben a total of six times, showcasing the development of the DTM from the 1980s to the present day. The runs will take place on Friday 24 July at 1.45 pm and 5.00 pm, on Saturday 25 July at 12.00 pm and 5.15 pm, and on Sunday 26 July at 11.25 am.
