Alpine with best time in qualifying for 24 Hours of Le Mans

Strong performance from Alpine in qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ferdinand Habsburg, who shares an A424 with António Félix da Costa and Charles Milesi, set the fastest time of 3:23.135 minutes. Two Cadillac V-Series.R. Louis Delétraz, who drives with Norman Nato and Will Stevens, set the second-fastest lap with 3:23.148 minutes. Third in qualifying was the V-Series.R from WTR with Filipe Albuquerque, Jordan Taylor and Ricky Taylor, with Jordan Taylor posting a time of 3:23.323 minutes in qualifying.

"Qualifying was obviously good. We're third - that's great. It was actually my first qualifying at Le Mans, so I was a bit nervous beforehand," said Taylor. "But I knew that all three Cadillacs were strong in practice. I had a clean lap. My goal today was to finish in the top 15, but it was nice to put in a good lap to give everyone confidence and build momentum for the week."

Fourth place went to the BMW M Hybrid V8 of Robin Frijns, René Rast and Sheldon van der Linde with a time of 3:23.444 minutes. The Cadillac of Earl Bamber, Sébastien Bourdais and Jack Aitken completed the top five. However, qualifying does not yet determine pole position at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This is because two hyperpole sessions (known as H1 and H2) will take place on Thursday. In H1, the top 15 from qualifying will line up - and in H2, the top ten from H1.

In plain language, this means that only places 16 to 18 are actually determined by the result of the now completed qualifying session, as all of the other 15 hypercars have made it into the Hyperpole. Not represented in the Hyperpole are the Peugeot 9X8 of Nick Cassidy, Paul di Resta and Stoffel Vandoorne (16th place), the Ferrari 499P of last year's winners Philip Hanson, Robert Kubica and Yifei Ye (17th place) and the second Peugeot of Loïc Duval, Malthe Jakobsen and Théo Pourchaire (18th place).

The procedure with qualifying, Hyperpole 1 and Hyperpole 2 is also used in the LMP2 and LMGT3 classes. The best qualifying time in the LMP2 class was 3:34.662 minutes for the Oreca 07 of Doriane Pin, Julien Andlauer and Richard Verschoor (Duqueine Team). In the LMGT3 class, the Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R of Peter Dempsey, Charlie Eastwood and Salih Yoluc came out on top in qualifying with a time of 3:55.744 minutes.
