For 2027 in the hypercar: Ford completes driver squad for FIA WEC

There is currently no shortage of manufacturers in the FIA WEC. Eight brands will be active in the big hypercar class in 2026. McLaren and Ford will join them in 2027. The Americans have used the day before the upcoming season highlight at Le Mans to present their driver squad. Former Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant, German Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx had already been confirmed as Ford drivers for some time. Now Matt Campbell, Nick Yelloly and Tom Blomqvist are joining them.

All three have already gained considerable experience in hypercars: Campbell at Porsche, Yelloly at BMW and Acura and Blomqvist also at Acura and Cadillac. "At Ford Racing, competition is in our blood - and as America's racing team, it's only logical that we fly the flag ourselves," says Mark Rushbrook (Global Director of Ford Racing). "With Matt, Nick and Tom alongside Logan, Rocky and Seb, we now have a driver line-up that can win races. We're not just returning to Le Mans to compete - we're returning to win overall - and this complete team gives us the perfect foundation to achieve that goal."

Who will be paired with whom as the driver trio has not yet been finalised. Ford has also not yet revealed the name of the hypercar. What is clear, however, is that the first test drives will take place in August (somewhere in Europe). Ford is working with Oreca from France on the chassis. Propulsion is provided by a 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine.

"The development phase of our 5.4-litre V8 engine is already showing promising results on the test bench in Dearborn, where we have been exploring its performance and durability limits," explains Dan Sayers (Ford Racing WEC Hypercar Program Manager). "The fact that Matt, Nick and Tom have been with us from the start is a huge advantage. Their collective feedback in the simulator and during our upcoming test phases across Europe will be crucial as we make the transition from the virtual world to the race track. They have all already proven that they can get performance out of brand new platforms and provide the precise technical feedback."
