Reiterberger (BMW) is clearing obstacles first and then aims to win at Assen

It has been two weeks since the last round of the Euro Moto Superbike, and everyone involved has recovered from the scare at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben in Race 1, where an oil spill caused a mass crash that also involved Markus Reiterberger from the Masteroil-alpha-Van Zon-BMW. After rolling over numerous times, the BMW crashed into the embankment behind the crash barriers and was badly damaged. However, thanks to a joint effort, the bike was rebuilt in time for Race 2, and Reiterberger was delighted to finish second.

What remains for the team led by Belgian Werner Daemen from their trip to Oschersleben is a new set-up that the Bavarian is getting on well with, pride in the team’s superb collaboration following the heavy crash and during the rebuild of the BMW M 1000 RR, and confidence that the long-awaited victory could finally come this coming weekend in Assen, the Netherlands.

A chance of victory at Assen

“I’m looking forward to Assen; the circuit suits me well,” he said ahead of the first free practice session. “I’ve celebrated many successes here before, and following the positive result in the second race at Oschersleben, we’re optimistic that we have a chance of victory. Werner Daemen and I are very proud of the team’s performance following the devastating crash in the first race at Oschersleben. The team has done a brilliant job of building a completely new bike, and we’ve also made further progress with the set-up.”

“I think we can be even stronger at Assen,” said Reiterberger. “I feel at home there and victory is definitely the goal. I hope the weather plays along. I’ve been preparing over the last two days by felling trees infested with bark beetles – that was a really tough workout.”
