Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari): Improved engine, 15 PS more?

Ferrari is going full throttle after the summer break: the Italians will be bringing a new aerodynamic package to Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, and shortly afterwards they will be stepping up their engine development for their home race at Monza.

To close the gap on leaders Mercedes even on high-power circuits such as Spa and Monza, the historic Maranello-based team is making use of the so-called ADUO for the second time this season.

ADUO stands for ‘Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities’. These are designed to ensure that engine manufacturers who are lagging behind have a chance to make up the deficit during the season. Manufacturers are granted ADUO if they are at least 2 per cent behind in terms of internal combustion engine performance.

Ferrari deployed an improved version of the power unit at the Austrian Grand Prix, and the second phase of this development work is now set to follow at Monza.

In Italy, there is speculation that the more powerful engine delivers 15 PS more than the previous version, which would equate to a gain of around two tenths of a second at Monza.
