Reference to the 2024 clarification – details on the Bortolotti case

Winner Mirko Bortolotti has been disqualified from Sunday’s DTM race at Oschersleben. The Grasser Racing Team’s Lamborghini Temerario GT3 was fitted with a wheel bearing that did not comply with DTM GT3 homologation or a reference part. As this constitutes a breach of Article 5.1 of the sporting regulations, the car was removed from the results.

The relevant Steward’s Decision states that team principal Grasser claimed that a modification to the wheel bearings had been permitted in previous and other races, and that they had forgotten to replace them for the DTM race in question.

Furthermore, Grasser cites the fact that a Clarification from 2024 states that the use of the wheel bearing is optional and that this Clarification is still available for download in the 2024 section of the DTM team area, for archiving purposes.

However, from the DMSB’s perspective, clarifications are only valid for the relevant year and cease to be valid upon the publication of the new regulations. This clarification is therefore no longer valid, as new regulations for each racing series are published before the start of each season.

The Grasser Racing Team lodged an appeal against the decision. According to a DMSB spokesperson, the appeal hearing is due to take place before the season finale at Hockenheim, so that a decision can be reached before the final race and there is no championship decision subject to review.
