Mathis Valin, who crashed whilst leading the qualifying race for the Portuguese Grand Prix, will not be returning to the Motocross World Championship this season.
The French MX2 youngster, who won the German Grand Prix at the Talkessel, turned 20 on Tuesday. “In the first few weeks after my injury, I could only train lightly. I’ve been back on the bike for a few days now, and day by day, week by week, I’m feeling a bit better,” explained the Frenchman. “In two weeks’ time, I’ll be undergoing further medical examinations to get the all-clear from the doctors.”
No overseas races
“Of course, I hope to get the all-clear in early September, but for a Grand Prix you have to be in peak physical condition, and as the last three races are so far away, that wouldn’t be easy,” says Valin.
MXoN is the goal
“My aim is, of course, to recover as quickly as possible,” he continued. “If I’m selected by the French federation to compete in the Motocross of Nations in Ernée on 4 October, I’ll be there. I enjoyed this event so much last year that I hope to be part of our team again. But we’ll just have to wait for the next round of tests to make sure I can get back on a motorbike.”
