The Grand Prix of Portugal in Agueda marks the start of the second half of the season. The 2026 World Championship consists of 19 rounds, with Agueda being the 10th round of the current season.
Weather conditions and circuit
It is currently cooler in Portugal than in Germany. With daytime highs of 27 degrees, the weather is expected to remain dry with bright sunshine. Compared to the races in Montevarchi, conditions in Águeda will therefore be rather cool. The Crossdromo Internacional de Águeda is located 75 km south of Porto and is considered a hard-surface track, known for its reddish-orange soil.
MXGP: Lucas Coenen continues to lead comfortably
Even though Red Bull KTM factory rider Lucas Coenen didn’t have his best day a week ago in Montevarchi, he continues to lead the standings with a comfortable 56-point lead. Conditions in Montevarchi were unusual: a narrow, hard track, jet lag from the trip to America and the heat. In Portugal, Lucas Coenen is expected to have returned to his usual form. According to the entry list, there are no riders from Germany or Austria on the starting grid this time. Only Kevin Brumann from Switzerland will be among the field of 26 riders. Kay de Wolf is absent due to an ankle injury sustained in Italy.

MX2: Sacha Coenen still in the lead
Red Bull KTM factory rider Sacha Coenen won the Italian Grand Prix and extended his lead in the World Championship standings to 41 points. For defending champion Simon Längenfelder (KTM), things aren’t going well at the moment, apart from his starts. In Montevarchi, he took the holeshot three times, but fell back and is currently fourth in the standings at the halfway point of the season. Now would be the time to sort out the problems and turn things around. We’ll see if he manages it. Otherwise, the two Triumph factory riders are going from strength to strength. Guillem Farres could have claimed the day’s victory in Montevarchi had he not crashed in the second race. When Farres crashes, Mc Lellan is on hand to secure a race win.
