In the first SBK race on Saturday and the sprint race on Sunday, the riders will start according to their Superpole results. For the second main race on Sunday, which starts at 16.30 CET at the Estoril Circuit, there will be a revised starting grid. The top nine finishers from the sprint race will occupy the first three rows of the grid. The remaining riders, who will start the second race from 10th place onwards, will be positioned according to their Superpole results.

If, for example, the Superpole winner crashes in the sprint race, he will, in the worst-case scenario, drop back to 10th on the grid for the second race. The biggest loser is Bimota works rider Alex Lowes, who was cut off at the front wheel by Yari Montella (Barni Ducati) in the first corner of the sprint race, causing him to nearly fall off his bike and be pushed right to the back of the field. Montella also fell far behind as a result, with the pair finishing in 11th and 13th places respectively.

The biggest beneficiary in Portugal is two-time Superbike World Champion Alvaro Bautista from the Barni Spark Ducati team, who has moved up an astonishing seven places on the grid to fifth.
