Despite having a fever: Domi Aegerter aims to step it up at Kawasaki’s home race

Dominique Aegerter is actually well prepared for the tenth race weekend of the 2026 Supersport World Championship, as the team faced every conceivable set of conditions during a total of six test days in March, June and August – from rain to extreme heat! There’s a simple reason why the Kawasaki works team has tested in Cremona three times: located just 60 km from the team’s headquarters in Reggio Emilia, it’s their home race.

For the Swiss rider, too, it’s a sort of home race, as no other circuit on the Supersport calendar is any closer. His anticipation for Cremona would be even greater were it not for a mild summer cold.

“I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather since last week – it’s nothing serious, just a slight fever. I hope I’ll have recovered by the start of the weekend,” revealed the 35-year-old. “Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to Cremona, another home race for me. But more than that: it’s the team’s real home race, as their workshop is just an hour away from the circuit. We’ve already been to the Cremona Circuit a few times this summer for testing. That means we have plenty of data on the track. That should make the start of the weekend a little easier for us. But as I said, by then I hope to be fully fit again, because I really want to be.”

As the Cremona Circuit was only added to the calendar in 2024, when Aegerter was still competing in the Superbike World Championship, this year marks his first race weekend on a Supersport bike at the 3.7 km circuit – the shortest on the calendar.

“The track layout is really fun on a 600cc bike,” said Aegerter. “I’m sure lots of sponsors will come along again to visit us and cheer us on. That’s why I want to put in some strong performances. As always, that’s our aim. If I can start with a good free practice session on Friday and then step it up a gear in Superpole, hopefully the rest will fall into place a bit more easily.”
