Cremona double winner Jeremy Alcoba wrote a new chapter in Kawasaki’s history

On Friday, his first pole position since Philipp Öttl at Jerez in 2021; on Saturday, his first victory since Can Öncü at the Mandalika Street Circuit in 2023; and on Sunday, his first one-two finish – Jeremy Alcoba achieved something remarkable for Kawasaki last weekend at the Cremona Circuit! “Luckily, we’d tested at Cremona beforehand; that helped a lot,” Alcoba admitted to SPEEDWEEK.com reporter Sebastian Fränzschky. “I’m delighted that I was able to play a small part in Kawasaki’s success story.”

As a reminder: there is a simple reason why even a rider of Kenan Sofuoglu’s calibre – who has secured three world championships and 26 victories for Kawasaki in the middleweight class – was unable to achieve a one-two finish. It was only in 2020 – as part of the reduced calendar during the coronavirus pandemic – that a second race was introduced in the support series. The record-holding Supersport world champion had already brought his unique career to a close in 2017.

Alcoba arrived at the winners’ interview with a hoarse voice following his second victory – the celebrations after his triumph the previous day had really taken their toll on his vocal cords. “I tried to be even more focused in the second race. I was under a bit more pressure because everyone is always improving a little. So I held back a bit at first and rode my bike a bit more gently, keeping a bit of a distance from the lads at the front so that the front tyre pressure wouldn’t rise too much,” explained the Spaniard. “When I saw that Arenas and Booth-Amos were in first and second place, I decided to overtake Farioli and Debise, and before I knew it I was up with the leading riders. In a few corners I almost lost the front wheel and was on the verge of a crash, but I stayed focused. I was watching the riders in front of me and knew where I was quicker. So when I overtook Arenas, I tried to defend my position on the sections where he was faster.”

There are still two Supersport rounds to go in 2026. What are Alcoba’s plans for Estoril and Jerez? “Victories, or at least to be right up there with the leaders. I’ll try to finish the season in third place in the World Championship – why not? It could work out.”

This statement from Alcoba is a dig at his team boss Manuel Puccetti, as third place is currently occupied by Ducati rider Jaume Masia, who was signed by Puccetti just a few days before Cremona as his successor for the 2027 Supersport World Championship! The Kawasaki rider is sixth in the overall standings with 188 points, whilst Masia has 229 points.
