Senna Agius’s first MotoGP test for KTM: Chaz Davies feels vindicated

Senna Agius will make his MotoGP debut for Tech3-KTM in 2027. The Australian already got a first taste of the premier class during testing at the Red Bull Ring. On the Monday following the Austrian Grand Prix, closed-door testing took place ahead of the 2027 MotoGP season. Agius rode a modified 1000cc KTM.

A week after getting to know the MotoGP bike, his mentor Chaz Davies spoke exclusively to SPEEDWEEK.com at the Superbike World Championship in Cremona about Agius’s first day on the MotoGP KTM. However, Davies was not permitted to disclose any technical details about the motorbike.

His assessment of Agius, however, was all the more clear: “The day went really well. It was a dream of a first day. He met everyone involved for the first time. There are far more people involved than in his previous projects. Everyone in the paddock has praised his work, his feedback and his professionalism very highly.”

Davies was also impressed by his protégé’s pace. “He did really well. It was his first day on the bike. He was able to hold his own in the middle of the field. That was impressive. Nothing was changed on the bike. It was simply a matter of familiarising him with MotoGP.”

The former Superbike rider had already made it clear before the test that Agius’s height and riding style would be better suited to a more powerful bike than his Moto2 machine. His first outing reinforced this view: “Yes, but it was only the first day and we’re talking about MotoGP here. It was, however, a very promising start. What I’d thought has been confirmed.”

Davies does not yet want to draw any conclusions about Agius’s first MotoGP season based on this impression. “Of course, we shouldn’t get too carried away at this stage. Even between this test and the one in Valencia, a great many things will change. Then there’s the added pressure next year. That can change quite a lot too. But all in all, that first taste was really good.”
