F1 World Champion Lando Norris extends contract: clear commitment to McLaren

Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren, as the team announced today, Saturday. The reigning Formula 1 champion has committed to the long-established team for several years, meaning he will remain on board until at least the end of 2030. He is thus following in the footsteps of Max Verstappen, who last week confirmed his contract extension with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2030.

Norris made a point of personally informing his team at the Woking factory of his decision to stay. His team-mate Oscar Piastri had already extended his contract last March. CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella have also signed multi-year deals with McLaren over the past two years.

A special gift to mark the contract extension

To celebrate the contract extension, Norris is receiving a special gift: the MCL39 Grand Prix car in which he won the title in 2025. “McLaren is my home and I’m very happy about the new contract, which ties me to the team until at least 2030. I embarked on this journey nine years ago and have always been clear about the goals I want to achieve – namely, to return to the top with the team and win world championship titles,” says the driver with 48 Grand Prix podium finishes to his name.

“We’ve achieved that goal, but of course we want more; we want to keep winning races and world championship titles, and we know that as a team we’re capable of doing so. I can’t wait to get back in the cockpit at Monza, and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for us,” adds the 26-year-old Briton.

Norris has been part of the McLaren family since 2017, when he was accepted into the British team’s junior driver programme. He initially served as a test and simulator driver, before making the step up to the top flight in 2019. Since then, he has made 163 Grand Prix starts for the British team and won 13 Grands Prix. Last year, he was crowned World Champion.
