Agueda: Guillem Farres (Triumph) wins MX2 Race 1, Längenfelder takes third place

First MX2 race, Portuguese Grand Prix in Agueda: Czech Osicka-KTM rider Julius Mikula, who had suffered a heavy crash at the German Grand Prix and was forced to sit out the last World Championship round at Kegums, took the first MX2 holeshot of his career ahead of pole-sitter Guillem Farres (Triumph), Sacha Coenen, Janis Reisulis and Simon Längenfelder. Farres fought his way to the front and took the lead, whilst World Championship leader Sacha Coenen lost control of his bike in the rhythm section and went down. By the time he had got his bike back on its wheels, the entire field had passed him, meaning the Belgian had to start a chase from last place.

Comeback after Sacha Coenen’s crash

After 6 laps, Sacha Coenen had already made his way back into the top 10. Sacha took every risk and eventually crossed the line in 6th place.

Simon Längenfelder: Fighting his way to third place

Defending champion Simon Längenfelder was in third place behind Farres and Reisulis, but in the final laps, Triumph works rider Camden Mc Lellan was closing in fast. Liam Everts was already hot on his heels. Längenfelder showed fighting spirit, launched a final sprint and took third place across the finish line.

Guillem Farres’ sixth win of the season

Farres controlled the race and even eased off the pace slightly towards the end. The Spaniard won with a lead of 4.6 seconds over Janis Martins Reisulis and Simon Längenfelder.

Standings at the top of the table

With his victory in the first race and World Championship leader Sachas Coenen finishing sixth, Guillem Farres was able to reduce his deficit to second place by 10 points, from 40 to 30. Simon Längenfelder also made up 5 points and was able to reduce his deficit to the top of the standings from 60 to 55 points.
