Foxhill MX2 Race 1: Guillem Farres (Triumph) wins ahead of Simon Längenfelder

First race of the MX2 class at Foxhills: Whilst most riders started Saturday’s race on hard-ground tyres, many switched to scoop tyres on Sunday as the track had been thoroughly watered and was muddy in places.

Längenfelder put in a high-intensity performance at the start of the race

Pole-sitter Simon Längenfelder got off to a good start, but in the first corner he was pushed wide, allowing Guillem Farres (Triumph) to take the lead. Längenfelder settled into third place behind Farres and Everts. The German showed great intensity at the start of the race and managed to hold off Everts.

Crash involving Sacha Coenen

World Championship leader Sacha Coenen, who was competing having undergone surgery for a broken collarbone just six days earlier, was running in seventh place, but he crashed in the corner before the pit lane, with the ever-present risk of re-injuring his recently operated-on shoulder. Fortunately, the Belgian was able to continue the race in 14th place.

Ferruccio Zanchi’s horrific crash

The Ducati factory rider tackled the downhill jumps with particular gusto. In the battle for sixth place, he edged out Julius Mikula (KTM) on the descent shortly before the end of the 30-minute race. The Czech rider countered, and on the following lap Zanchi hit a bump on take-off, landed at right angles to the direction of travel and crashed all the way down the hill. That was the end of the race for him. Fortunately, after a few seconds of shock, the Italian was able to get back on his feet.

Farres won ahead of Längenfelder and Everts

Guillem Farres controlled the race from the front and won the first race by a margin of 1.3 seconds ahead of Längenfelder and Everts. Sacha Coenen played it safe after his crash and finished the race in 10th place.

With his race win and Sacha Coenen in 10th place, Guillem Farres took the lead in the MX2 class. He holds a 2-point lead going into the second race.
