Marc Marquez: Lap marathon in Aragon to get in the mood for the Silverstone GP

With less than a week to go before the start of the British Grand Prix – which this time kicks off with a major MotoGP event in central London – and the end of the three-week summer break, most of the riders in the premier class are in the final stages of their holidays. The exceptions are the injured riders Marco Bezzecchi, Fermin Aleguer and Johann Zarco, whose energy is being channelled almost exclusively into the complete recovery of their strained bodies. Incidentally, Bezzecchi was testing his fitness in Misano at the same time.

Marc Marquez counts himself among those who are ‘not fully fit’. The Ducati factory rider continues to describe the races in the premier class as battles against himself – even when he triumphed convincingly on twisty circuits in Hungary and Germany. The champion’s most recent injuries, sustained during the sprint race at Le Mans, are not the main concern here. What matters most is how Marquez’s injured right shoulder feels.

To continue practising his riding movements on the motorbike, he returned to the very familiar MotorLand Aragon circuit ahead of the British Grand Prix. In accordance with FIM regulations, he took to the track not on the Desmosedici, but on the commercially available Panigale V2S supersport bike. It is certainly noteworthy that the world champion usually prefers the smaller twin-cylinder bike for training purposes. ‘MM93’ spends virtually no time on the significantly more powerful Panigale superbikes in his private life.

At the one-day event in Aragon, the MotoGP’s venue two rounds from now, a shortened circuit layout was used. Marc Marquez wasn’t alone on the track. Alongside a number of young riders, Marquez also met fellow world champion David Alonso. The Colombian, who lives in Spain, is taking on the challenge of MotoGP – in 2027, Alonso will be riding a Honda.

Marc Marquez, who also used the practice day under blue skies to do a few laps with the young riders, came through the 120 PS physio session unscathed. His brother Alex Marquez remained by his big brother’s side throughout the practice session in Aragon as well. The non-works rider turned up in blue as usual – but on a roaring Yamaha production racer. No official photos of the vice-world champion’s guest appearance were released.
