Now official! Tech3 will continue to partner with KTM in MotoGP in 2027

Tech3 is continuing its partnership with KTM! That was the official message from a press conference called at short notice during the Catalan Grand Prix. The press conference was convened by Tech3 owner Günther Steiner – in collaboration with KTM Factory Racing boss Pit Beirer. Incidentally, it was also in Barcelona last September that Günther Steiner confirmed the takeover of Hervé Poncharal’s long-established racing team.

Since the South Tyrolean took over, the primary focus has been on setting the course for the period after 2026 – when, as is well known, the new era of 850cc MotoGP prototypes will begin. As part of this major reorganisation, Tech3 also needed to define the technical requirements for the coming years.

As reported in detail on SPEEDWEEK.com, continuing the partnership was the top priority for both the new Tech3 management and KTM. Günther Steiner and Pit Beirer reiterated that a shared future remained ‘Plan A’.

Nevertheless, it was understandably necessary for the new team owner to explore alternatives. Steiner made no secret of the fact that he was holding talks with several manufacturers – in order to continue running the Tech3 customer team on a sound technical and financial footing.

It is now confirmed: KTM will remain the partner beyond 2026. With the financial stabilisation of the Upper Austrian manufacturer, the existing infrastructure and the established personal contacts, all the necessary conditions have been met, as both sides confirmed in Barcelona.

Günther Steiner said at the press conference in Barcelona: “We have decided to continue working with KTM. After all, working well within existing partnerships is far better than looking for new partners. So we discussed how we’ll shape the future and our collaboration, because the ownership situation at Tech3 has naturally changed and everyone has their own approach. We sat down with KTM and said: ‘Let’s get on with it.’ We’re all very much looking forward to the future with KTM!”

KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister said: “I’m delighted to be sitting here alongside Günther. He had all his options on the table. The fact that he’s continuing to work with KTM means a great deal to us. Günther is someone who does things differently; a pioneer and an independent thinker. He has built a reputation as someone who takes a different approach to things. And that is exactly what we do at KTM. We don’t just build motorbikes to win races; we want to challenge the established players. So it’s a really good combination, and we’re delighted that we’re continuing to work together and are now embarking on the next chapter.”

KTM Head of Racing Pit Beirer: “I’m proud that we’re continuing to work together. We have a long and passionate relationship with Tech3; we’ve built many things together and won races together. Now it’s time to look to the future. KTM has been through some tough times, but we’re ready for the future. And it was a very important project for us to continue working together.”

Following the agreement on continued cooperation within the MotoGP rider line-up, the next step is to finalise the rider line-up for 2027. Maverick Viñales is in a strong position – provided the Spaniard, who has been sidelined by injury for a long time, regains his former form, everything points to a continued partnership with the experienced rider. A rookie could also be considered as the second rider.
