Cerveny, Najman, Vit: Czech one-two-three in the IRRC Supersport

For Czech riders, a win at the road race in Horice counts double, so the battle for every metre is correspondingly fierce. In the first IRRC Supersport race, Petr Najman narrowly beat Marek Cerveny. Their compatriot Matej Vit completed the podium after ten laps of the 5.150-kilometre circuit.

The local heroes also set the pace in the second race. Up until the halfway point, Najman, Cerveny and Vit were separated by just a few tenths of a second; then Vit was the first to fall behind, and the leader had to let his rival past after a minor mistake. Despite all of Najman’s attempts, the order remained unchanged right up to the finish line.

Behind the Czech trio, Switzerland’s Mauro Poncini (Yamaha) secured fourth place ahead of his Dutch team-mate Ilja Caljouw. Germany’s Wolfgang Schuster (Triumph), who has announced his retirement several times but has always changed his mind, finished the ten-lap race in sixth place.

With Rico Vetter (Kawasaki) in eighth, Jonas Stracke (Yamaha) in eleventh and Sebastian Frotscher – the Yamaha rider who had to retire from the first race following a crash – in twelfth, three German riders picked up valuable points in the fiercely contested championship. British rider Gary Johnson, competing for the German team Schleizer Dreieck, was unable to take part in the race due to an injury sustained in a crash.
