Julian Trummer: “I’ve seen that I definitely belong among the top riders”

With his excellent seventh place in the Formula One Classic TT, Julian Trummer suggested that there is plenty of potential for him in the final Senior Classic TT. This result moved him up to twelfth on the starting grid, and had the race been decided on lap times, the mechanics at TC Racing/CP Coldplaning would even have been able to fit a single-digit number to his Kawasaki ZXR750 for the first time.

The 35-year-old Austrian from Styria got off to a good start and immediately found a good rhythm. By the time he reached the long Sulby Straight, he had already caught and overtaken none other than the 14-time TT winner and lap record holder on the Snaefell Mountain Course, the British Norton rider Peter Hickman. By this point at the latest, Trummer realised that his pace was spot on.

By Ballaugh Bridge, the motorbike and car instructor – who had married his girlfriend just before setting off for the Classic TT – was already within sight of local hero Conor Cummins, who had started ten seconds ahead of him. “Over the Mountain Mile, I managed to close the gap on him, and just as I was preparing to overtake heading towards Brandish Corner, the clutch cable snapped,” said a visibly disappointed Trummer.

“Conor clocked a lap of 122.4. If I’d finished, I reckon I’d have come fifth with an average speed of around 123.5 miles per hour. Up to that point, my lap had been perfect and I was feeling really good. It’s a real shame, but that’s Classic racing for you. I’m happy to see that I’ve taken another huge step forward and am now definitely among the top riders. A massive thank you to everyone at TC Racing.”
