Southern 100: Harrison sweeps the board, Trummer makes a promising debut
Dean Harrison is in the form of his life. At the Southern 100, even road racing aces such as Michael Dunlop and Peter Hickman didn’t stand a chance. Julian Trummer put in a solid performance.

Ever since Dean Harrison moved to the Isle of Man with his family, there’s been no stopping the Brit. Last year, the father of two capitalised on his newfound home advantage to secure two victories at the Tourist Trophy. This year, too, the Honda works rider showed who’s boss in the top classes during the Superbike race and the Senior TT.
Having already won both Superbike races at the Southern 100 on Wednesday and smashed the old lap record, the Honda rider went one better on Thursday. Harrison also finished the third race in first place. However, in Peter Hickman he faced an opponent whose attacks he had to fend off right up to the finish line.
In the final Solo Championship race over nine laps on the 6.84-kilometre Billown Circuit, Hickman was once again his fiercest rival, pushing him to the very limit. With a time of 2:10.032 minutes, he smashed his own record, which he had set just a few hours earlier. Hickman had no answer to this and had to settle for second place.
Michael Dunlop played no part this time. The 33-time TT winner from Northern Ireland fell well short of expectations, finishing fifth twice and retiring on two occasions.
Things went well for Julian Trummer, however. On his debut on the demanding circuit with its many blind corners, his results were certainly impressive. The Austrian narrowly missed out on the top-10 finishes he had been aiming for, largely because the narrow track offers few opportunities for safe overtaking.
