Cremona, FP3: Surra ahead of Lecuona, Bulega only tenth – BMW experiencing problems!

At 9.40 am sharp, the pit lane in Cremona opened for the 20-minute FP3 session. The 22 riders had one last chance to fine-tune their motorbikes ahead of the subsequent Superpole. Iker Lecuona had set the benchmark on Friday afternoon: the Ducati factory rider had lapped the circuit in 1:28.108.

Lecuona immediately followed suit, setting the weekend’s first sub-1:27 time and taking the lead. Ducati Corse boss Luigi Dall’Igna watched from the sidelines as the Spaniard confirmed his strong form from Friday. On the other side of the Aruba pit, Nicolo Bulega continued to struggle following his two crashes the previous day. At the halfway stage, the World Championship leader was down in 8th place, 0.823 seconds off the pace.

At the front, the Ducati riders were once again setting the pace. With six minutes to go, Yamaha rider Stefano Manzi moved up to sixth place on the SCQ tyre. At that point, the 2025 Supersport World Champion was the only non-Ducati rider in the top eight.

BMW gets off to a false start on Saturday

FP3 proved a bumpy ride for the BMW duo. Miguel Oliveira had to push his M1000RR into the run-off area on the long straight. At that point, the Portuguese rider was in twelfth place. Team-mate Danilo Petrucci also struggled to find a rhythm on the second day.

In the closing stages of FP3, Lecuona had set the fastest time of 1:27.695 mins. This was faster than Bulega’s pole time from the previous year. However, Alberto Surra followed suit on the SCQ tyre and was 0.029 seconds faster. The young Italian thus secured the fastest time for Motocorsa-Ducati.

Jake Dixon takes Honda into the top three!

Honda rider Jake Dixon made a big impression. The Brit, who had a very difficult start to the season with numerous injuries, moved up to third place on his final attempt and was just 0.271 seconds off the lead. Close behind him was Bimota rider Axel Bassani. Former world champion Álvaro Bautista rounded off the top five.

The session proved a sobering affair for Bulega, who dropped back to tenth place. Bulega was the only one of the 22 riders unable to improve on his Friday time. The championship leader was more than seven tenths of a second off the fastest time.

There were also disappointed faces at BMW: Miguel Oliveira slipped back to 16th place, 1.064 seconds off the pace. Danilo Petrucci, who had already won at Cremona, finished in 20th place.

Superpole gets underway at 11.15 am.
