Further information on the test of the Ferrari 499P for 2027

The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is currently in the middle of the 2026 season, but many eyes are already turning to 2027. Ferrari plans to field an upgraded version of the successful 499P that features so-called ‘joker’ updates. Each WEC hypercar currently has five ‘jokers’ at its disposal to address performance-related issues with the car. At Le Mans, Ferrari confirmed that only one of these jokers has been used so far. This leaves plenty of scope to deliver a major update to the 499P for 2027.

This week , Ferrari was out on the track at Monza with a test car. Clearly visible on the test car is the layout of the rear wing, which does not have a continuous main blade but features individual elements on the outer sides. In fact, the Ferrari tested at Monza is not yet said to represent the final configuration for 2027. Rather, the focus was on evaluating and testing a wide variety of technical and aerodynamic solutions – in other words, a step-by-step process that currently leaves several design options open ahead of final homologation.

To enable comparisons, Ferrari also had the 2026 version of the 499P present at Monza. Conveniently, this car also completed a test programme in preparation for the 6 Hours of Monza. The FIA WEC will, after all, conclude the 2026 season at Monza.

As for the drivers, it is now clear who was at the wheel of the test car. Antonio Fuoco, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Miguel Molina drove the 2027 test car on the first of two test days. On the second day, only Giovinazzi, Pier Guidi and Miguel Molina were behind the wheel.

“The tests at Monza went well and enabled us to complete the planned programme in full,” said Antonello Coletta (Global Head of Endurance and Corse Clienti). “The two days were extremely valuable for checking how all the new elements we tested work and for gaining initial insights into the most promising approaches – with the aim of finalising the solutions for the coming season as soon as possible.”
