Hopefully back in action: Lucas Coenen (KTM) spotted at training

Following the many injury-related absences just before the season’s highlight, the Motocross of Nations in Ernée, there is finally some positive news again today: Belgian Red Bull KTM factory rider Lucas Coenen, who clearly dominated the first half of the MXGP World Championship but later suffered a protracted hip and sciatic nerve injury, has been able to resume riding practice. This raises hopes that the Belgian national team will be able to field its strongest line-up – featuring Liam Everts and the two Coenen brothers – at the Motocross of Nations in Ernée on 5 October. Today, Lucas Coenen posted a video showing him back on his factory KTM.

Final major motocross appearance in Europe

The MXoN in Ernée will be the last major European motocross event for the Coenen twins. They are moving to the USA from the 2027 season onwards. On 21 and 22 November 2026, the brothers are entered in the Paris Supercross at the Paris La Défense Arena. That will be their last appearance in Europe for the time being.

Julius Mikula ruled out due to shoulder injury

Meanwhile, the Czech team has announced that their top rider, Julius Mikula, will be unable to take part in the Motocross of Nations. Mikula injured his shoulder in a crash in China. The 17-year-old David Widerwill has been named as his replacement.
