Liberty bolsters the Ezpeleta family: Carlos is now deputy CEO

On 25 August, the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group announced the appointment of Carlos Ezpeleta as Deputy Chief Executive Officer. According to an official statement, this move “recognises his significant contribution to the sport’s development and strengthens the leadership team for the next phase of growth.”

Carlos Ezpeleta had previously served as MotoGP Sporting Director. With this promotion, he moves into second place in the hierarchy, directly behind his father, Carmelo. “Carlos Ezpeleta has played a key role in MotoGP for more than a decade and has helped to expand the series’ international presence, strengthen strategic partnerships, improve the commercial offering and grow the global fan base,” the statement said. “He has extensive experience – on both the business and sporting sides of the championship – and has played a key role in making MotoGP safer, more competitive and more exciting than ever.”

“It is a great honour for me to take on this role at such an exciting time for MotoGP,” said Carlos Ezpeleta. “Together with our fantastic fans and partners around the world, I look forward to working with Liberty Media and the entire MotoGP community to reach new audiences, create new opportunities and realise the full potential of this sport.”

With this move, Liberty Media is strengthening the Ezpeleta family’s influence in MotoGP. The move also reflects a commitment to shaping the next phase of growth with Carmelo and Carlos at the helm.
