Laurent Hoffmann wins, Nico Müller on the podium, title goes to Fedrik Matthys

The European Series Road Racing (ESR) weekend in Horice couldn’t have gone better for Laurent Hoffmann. Having secured pole position, the Belgian also crossed the finish line first. It was an emotional victory for him. On the one hand, he had won his first Superbike race 14 days earlier in Chimay; on the other, his wife is from the Czech Republic.

Whilst still on the starting grid, he emphasised in an interview just how important this triumph was to him and that he also intended to win the second race. Right from the first lap, he set a pace that no one could match. Right up to the finish, Laurent steadily increased his lead over the runner-up and ultimately secured a commanding victory.

Initially, his team-mate Fedrik Matthys was in second place, but it seemed as though the Belgian was avoiding any close battles so as not to risk a crash that would cost him the overall victory. He lost several places on the very last lap and crossed the finish line in eighth place. That was enough for him to clinch the title.

On the fifth lap, Nico Müller managed to work his way up to third place behind Laurent and the Swedish BMW rider Markus Karlsson. The German, who had been spectacularly thrown from his BMW the previous day whilst in a promising position, made no mistakes in the second race and secured the result comfortably.

As on Saturday, the Austrian guest rider Florian Astner (BMW) put up the fiercest resistance to the third-placed rider in the ESR overall standings, the Finn Anssi Koski (Yamaha), from the first to the last lap. At the finish line, he had to concede victory to him by the narrowest of margins. His compatriot Dominik Haslinger (Kawasaki) crossed the finish line in ninth place, just behind Matthy.
