Loris Baz’s Superbike comeback – the Frenchman replaces Tarran Mackenzie

At his home race in Donington, Tarran Mackenzie suffered fractures to his collarbone, shoulder blade and left tibia and fibula following a crash. Following the summer break of almost two months, the privateer Ducati rider returned to action at Magny-Cours, but was turned away by race doctor Monica Lazzarotti, who declared the Scot unfit to race.

It comes as a surprise that the Optical Express rider is not even venturing to Cremona three weeks later. Loris Baz will race for the MGM team in Mackenzie’s place. The Frenchman previously rode for the team in 2022 and 2023, when it was partnering with BMW in the World Superbike Championship.

Even though Baz is a highly adaptable rider, he will face many hurdles in his last-minute comeback. The Cremona Circuit was only added to the Superbike calendar in 2024, when the 33-year-old was competing in MotoAmerica. Although Baz is familiar with the current V4R from the US series, he has no experience with its advanced electronics.

The Frenchman doesn’t have far to travel: last weekend he was racing for the BMW ERC team at the Bol d’Or.
