Kawasaki works rider Pauls Jonass after Foxhills crash: concussion!

“When life deals you a blow, it hits you with full force,” commented Latvian Kawasaki factory rider Pauls Jonass on the situation following his crash in the second race at Foxhills. He, too, was initially unable to get up unaided after the impact and required medical attention. All in all, Pauls got off lightly. “I’ll have to take a few days’ break because of a concussion. Fortunately, I haven’t broken any bones. It’s just a minor setback on my journey.”

No start at Loket possible in the event of a concussion

If a concussion is suspected, a rider must first see the official race doctor. If a concussion is confirmed, there is a 10-day suspension period and a medically supervised return-to-racing procedure. The next Grand Prix is already this coming weekend in Loket, less than six days after his crash in England. So if it is indeed a concussion (as Jonass himself explains), the precisely defined procedure set out in the ‘FIM Concussion Guidelines – Appendix M’ applies, and Jonass may not be cleared to race until at least 10 days have passed.
