Lucas Coenen (KTM) still injured, will not start in Uddevalla

Lucas Coenen (KTM), who dominated the first half of the season, will be unable to compete in the 15th round of the Motocross World Championship in Uddevalla, Sweden, this coming weekend. Lucas has been undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for several weeks. In particular, an issue with his sciatic nerve continues to cause pain and forced the 19-year-old to withdraw from the Grand Prix events in the Czech Republic and Belgium.

Lucas Coenen has already won five Grands Prix this season. Although he has recently made progress, he is not fit enough to compete in Grand Prix events. However, together with the team and the physiotherapists, the decision was taken to sit out the race in Uddevalla. A premature return could lead to further complications.

Another crash could set us back again

“Of course, this is very disappointing for me and the team,” explained Lucas. “Missing my home Grand Prix was hard enough. I’d hoped that the extra days would be enough to get me fit again for Sweden, but time has run out for us. I’m still in pain and another crash could set us back to square one or even make the situation worse. I feel that physically I’m already close – but just not quite there yet.”

De Carli: “We need to be patient”

Team manager Davide De Carli also urges patience: “This is tough for Lucas and his family, but with an injury like this, we mustn’t rush things. In the MXGP, you have to be almost 100 per cent to be competitive, and Lucas simply isn’t ready for Sweden yet. All we can do is continue with his treatment and remain patient. At the same time, we’ll do everything we can to support Sacha in the MX2. We hope that both brothers will soon be able to race together again, as there aren’t many Grands Prix left until the end of the season.”
