Jorge Martin (Aprilia): Back on the bike after the MotoGP break

The MotoGP World Championship kicks off the second half of the season this Friday with the British Grand Prix. Spain’s Jorge Martin arrives at Silverstone as the championship leader. Earlier this week, the 28-year-old used a motorbike training session to prepare for the upcoming races. The ‘Martinator’ put in some laps on the 1.2-kilometre circuit at Menargues.

He used an Aprilia RS 660 for his training. Martin didn’t hold back in the heat and, after a few shakedown laps, completed three longer stints, each lasting around 18 minutes. “It was an extremely positive summer break for me this time,” Martin noted. “I was able to recover but also train hard and finally take part in a cycling challenge with some friends that I’d been dreaming of for a long time.” The Spaniard also took part in the legendary “La Purito” hill climb in Andorra alongside his MotoGP colleagues Pedro Acosta, Alex Rins and Aleix Espargaró (as reported by SPEEDWEEK.com).

Martin on Silverstone: “A circuit I really like”

“I can’t wait to get back out on the track with the Aprilia and work with my team,” Martin continued. “We definitely have an exciting second half of the season ahead of us, in which we’ll continue to give 100 per cent. Now it’s off to Silverstone – a circuit I really like and where I have some brilliant memories.” In 2024, Martin finished second twice at Silverstone on the Pramac Ducati – the previous year he was injured.

In the overall standings, the 2024 world champion currently leads by 14 points over sensation Ai Ogura, his Aprilia team-mate. Lurking just behind, following his comeback, is world champion Marc Marquez – the Ducati hero is currently just 18 points behind the Madrid-born rider. In total, eight riders are within 65 points of each other in the standings. This guarantees one of the most exciting second halves of the season in recent years as the 1000cc era draws to a close.
