MotoGP World Championship leader Jorge Martin: Now it’s time for 1,000 km on a road bike

Like most MotoGP stars, Jorge Martin has been treating himself to some rest and relaxation over the past few days. The Aprilia factory rider spent some quiet days with his girlfriend Maria Matutes and her sister and her partner in the Logroño region – an area famous for its Rioja wines.

Martin stayed at the exclusive Marqués de Murrieta vineyard, known for its ‘Castillo Ygay’ – which retails at around 275 euros a bottle. Whilst there, the MotoGP World Championship leader was also given an introduction to wine production, including tastings of some fine wines. A detour to the gourmet restaurant Asador Etxebarri – named Europe’s best restaurant of 2025 and a Michelin-starred establishment – was also on the group’s itinerary.

No holiday without training

Even on a relaxing holiday, Martin was out on his bike. That’s because the Madrid native has a very ambitious road cycling project lined up for this week. The event, organised in collaboration with his private partner Muc-Off, is called ‘Jorge Martin on Tour’, with the motto ‘1,000 km – 7 Days’. Martin plans to cover a whopping 1,000 kilometres in seven days with a few mates from his “89Squad”, setting off today, Monday 20 July.

Martin is currently in excellent form on his road bike: During the 14-day break ahead of the Sachsenring Grand Prix, the 28-year-old tackled the gruelling Dolomites Marathon in South Tyrol – a 106-kilometre route – at the invitation of his cycling sponsor, Pinarello.

The MotoGP season does not resume until the weekend of 7–9 August at Silverstone in the UK. Martin leads the overall standings with 208 points, ahead of Ai Ogura (Aprilia, 194), Marc Marquez (Ducati, 190), Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia, 186) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati, 184).
