Details of the Nordschleife test for the new Toyota GR GT3

It was the star attraction at Friday’s test session as part of the 6-hour race in the Nürburgring Endurance Series. KCMG completed its first public test with the new Toyota GR GT3. Jesse Krohn and Edoardo Liberati were among those to take the wheel of the new Japanese GT3 car, which will compete in global GT3 racing from 2027.

“It’s still hard to say; I mean, we haven’t done that many test sessions yet,” Krohn told GT Report after the test when asked about the current state of the car. “It has its strengths and weaknesses, but it’s hard to judge as we haven’t really compared it with another car yet. So there’s obviously still quite a bit for us to do. But the foundation is definitely there.”

The Finn, who won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in 2025, continued: “We simply have to learn as much as possible – these are new conditions for us; we haven’t driven the car in these temperatures yet. But the tyres are definitely a challenge for everyone. So we simply have to learn – everything about the car, what it needs under certain conditions, and so on. When you launch a new car, there are always a lot of things you have to work through.”

After the test, a picture doing the rounds on social media showed a lap time of 7:57 minutes displayed on the steering wheel. Neither Krohn nor Toyota were willing to comment on whether that lap time had actually been achieved during the test.

“To be honest, I don’t know, I really don’t know,” said Krohn when asked about a possible racing debut. However, rumours are growing that the Toyota GR GT3 will complete another test outing this year in the SPX class of the Nürburgring Endurance Series.
