24 Hours of Le Mans: BMW and Cadillac close together

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is slowly approaching the home straight - and it is becoming increasingly clear at the front of the field that victory in the 94th edition of the legendary classic on the French Sarthe will probably go to BMW or Cadillac. Both brands have been in the leading group since the start of the race.

Until the very end, Toyota was also right at the front with a good chance of victory. However, shortly after 10 o'clock on Sunday morning, there was a setback for the Toyota TR010 Hybrid of Brendon Hartley, Ryo Hirakawa and Sébastien Buemi. The front left brake mounting had to be changed, which took some time. As a result, the car dropped back to fourth position behind Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries in the other Toyota.

The BMW M Hybrid V8 of Robin Frijns, René Rast and Sheldon van der Linde is now in the lead. The Cadillac V-Series.R of Norman Nato, Will Stevens and Louis Delétraz, currently in second place, also lost time due to a penalty for an offence during a slow zone.

Three hypercars have been withdrawn from the race so far. The Cadillac V-Series.R of Earl Bamber, Sébastien Bourdais and Jack Aitken after problems with the power steering, the Genesis GMR-001 hypercar of Luis Felipe Derani, André Lotterer and Mathys Jaubert after a problem with the suspension and the BMW M Hybrid V8 of Kevin Magnussen, Raffaele Marciello and Dries Vanthoor due to electrical problems.
