Spielberg test: Fastest time for Moreira (Honda) – Senna Agius springs a surprise

The MotoGP World Championship now heads to Asia, where the Japanese Grand Prix is scheduled for early October. The private test with Pirelli tyres and the 850cc bikes on Monday at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg is all the more significant in this context. Journalists were not allowed in, but the lap times have nevertheless been leaked.

As previously reported, LCR Honda ace Diogo Moreira put in an impressive performance. Riding the 850cc machine and the new HRC bike, he reportedly lapped the circuit in 1:28.4. By way of comparison: in qualifying last Saturday, the 22-year-old Brazilian clocked a time of 1:29.1 mins in Q1. Pedro Acosta’s fastest qualifying time on Saturday was 1:27.9 mins. Sunday’s winner, Acosta, was also quick on Monday at Aichfeld on the 850cc KTM. He clocked a time of 1:28.9 minutes – the third-fastest time on Monday. Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini) clocked a time of 1:28.7 on his Ducati, making him two tenths of a second faster than Pedro.

Senna Agius just two tenths slower than Marc Marquez

Fourth fastest on Monday was Marco Bezzecchi, although according to reports he was only riding on hard tyres. The VR46 Academy rider clocked a time of 1:29.1 on his Aprilia – Johann Zarco (Honda) also posted a time in this range. Next year’s MotoGP rookie, Senna Agius, turned heads with a time of 1:29.7 minutes; he was just two tenths of a second slower than world champion Marc Marquez (1:29.5 minutes). However, Agius was riding a current-model 1000cc KTM, as were the outgoing South African Brad Binder and Honda test rider Taka Nakagami. Returnee Maverick Viñales clocked a time of 1:29.2 – just like Agius, on the 1000cc bike.

Superbike World Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu, who knows the Pirelli tyres better than most MotoGP stars, clocked a time of 1:30.5 behind Pol Espargaro (1:29.9). Rookie Izan Guevara, who was given the test with the Pramac team as a bonus and, like Agius, as a taster for 2027, was clocked at 1:30.5 minutes, the same as Jack Miller. At the bottom of the unofficial timesheet were the two official test riders from Yamaha and Aprilia – Augusto Fernandez and Lorenzo Savadori – with times in the 1:31s.
