Confirmation in Spielberg: Leo Rammerstorfer to remain in the World Championship in 2027 – with KTM!

The timing is just right: at his home Grand Prix, Moto3 rookie Leo Rammerstorfer can breathe a sigh of relief as he looks ahead to the coming GP season. On Saturday afternoon, it was officially confirmed what SPEEDWEEK.com had already reported – Rammerstorfer’s career as a Moto3 GP rider will continue into 2027.

For his second season, the 22-year-old will be changing teams. He’ll be moving from Paolo Simoncelli’s SIC58 Squadra to the Level Up MTA team, led by Alessandro Tonucci. This change involves more than just a change of colours. MTA is affiliated with KTM and is well positioned in fifth place in the team standings with Bertelle and Esteban. However, both riders are set to leave the team at the end of 2026, clearing the way for the next generation.

Tonucci was quick to select his first riders. They managed to sign Benat Fernandez, the current leader of the Red Bull Rookie Cup . MTA also has full confidence in Leo Rammerstorfer, who is still a Honda rider. He was naturally delighted that the plans for 2027 have been finalised successfully.

Speaking to SPEEDWEEK.com in Spielberg, the Austrian said: “I’m so relieved that things are moving forward! I’ve managed to improve – my race pace is now good enough to score points and keep learning. It’s also good news that I’ll have the chance to ride the KTM in my second year. I think it will also be an advantage that there are German-speaking KTM technicians available within the team.”

Saturday in Spielberg had also got off to a very good start for Leo Rammerstorfer from a sporting perspective. Just as he had done at Misano, the SIC58 rider coped excellently on the wet track. For a long time, the number 5 led the field. In the race, he finished third, half a second behind. Things didn’t go quite so well in dry conditions, however. The rider from near Linz narrowly missed out on a place in Q2, finishing sixth. Leo Rammerstorfer will start his home Grand Prix on Sunday from 20th on the grid.
