One-man show in Saxony: Aldeguer out, no replacement in Germany

The Gresini Racing MotoGP team, which was already severely hampered at Assen, will also be represented by just one rider at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, with the injured Fermin Aldeguer absent. Aldeguer, who sustained a vertebral fracture during Friday’s practice session at Assen, will miss the eleventh round of the 2026 season, according to an official team statement.

“Fermin Aldeguer remains sidelined as he continues his enforced recovery period and will miss the race at the Sachsenring. No replacement rider will be fielded,” read a statement from Gresini on social media.

Unlike at the season opener in Buriram – when Ducati test rider Michele Pirro stepped in alongside Alex Marquez – the young Spaniard will not be replaced in Germany.

So far this season, four different riders have lined up for Gresini: Alex Márquez, Pirro, Aldeguer and Superbike rider Iker Lecuona, who stepped in for the injured Márquez at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Lecuona impressed on his Ducati MotoGP debut with a seventh-place finish in the Grand Prix, but is unavailable for the Sachsenring due to his commitments in the Superbike World Championship at Donington Park.

Even so, following Friday’s practice session at Assen – during which both Spanish riders were taken to the medical centre – the possibility of the team being forced to withdraw from the race entirely for an extended period could not be ruled out. Fortunately, however, Alex Marquez’s massive highside did not result in any serious injuries. Whilst Aldeguer was receiving treatment in Spain, ‘AM73’ managed to secure a remarkable fifth place at the last Grand Prix.
